CRAVING FOR A BOHEMIAN DESIGN – 5 Tips for an Artsy Home

Your taste in art is just as unique as you. You’re attracted to items with stories — antique trinkets and hand-stitched quilts…

Though you don’t shy away from color, you’re especially attracted to earthy colors, metallics, and jewels. Try accenting a neutral base with pops of emerald, amethyst, and topaz.

Bohemian artworks aren’t often found in the store. Instead try thrifting! Keep your eyes open for plush rugs and overstuffed decorative pillows. A velvet chaise lounge? Yes, please!

Here are some tips to help you overcome art design decision fatigue. Read on…

If picking a new piece of art decoration feels like a whirlpool of stress and self-doubt, you’re not alone, friend. Investing in an artwork for your home is a big commitment.

You might be worrying…

… What if I spend all this money then get tired of my new artwork two-months later

… What if it clashes with my current décor

… Or what if my soon-to-be dinner guests thinks it’s too understated or over the top

On top of that, you’ve got a sea of options to choose from. No wonder finding your style feels a little overwhelming.

But luckily there are steps you can take to make it a whole lot easier. The first being…

1. Set the Mood

Begin narrowing down your search for the perfect piece of artwork by deciding on a mood for the room you’re decorating. Ask yourself how you want to feel when you walk in. Maybe you’re after a cozy, comfy living room. Or a calming, relaxing bedroom…

Collect interior design inspiration that aligns with whatever vibe you’re after. You’ll still have an array of options, but you’ll be able to make the final decision with more confidence knowing it suits your aesthetic.

2. Start With a Statement Art piece

If you’re decorating a home from scratch, an easy step is to pick a focal point piece of artwork for each room.

When picking art for your space, imagine what would it look like on your walls first, what type of pieces speka most to you. A great idea to keep your bohemian style in check is to chose pieces that have a story to tell, either figurative or abstract, look for that story that speak to you most.

It’s also a great idea to go for either a big artwork that will become your focal point, or for a variety of smaller artworks that you will mix and match to create playfulness and a color romantic story with.

Whatever it is, make sure you genuinely love it. Your focal art point should put a smile on your face because odds are you’re going to be looking at it a lot. Pick the rest of your décor to compliment that one statement piece. This’ll help you overcome any interior design indecision you may be facing.

3. Experiment with Color and Texture

Who says that a minimalist beautiful design in your space has to be only about white? Color and texture can transform how you feel. It’s science, friend. Each shade has a unique psychological affect. For example, yellow is energizing and works best in kitchens and bathrooms. And blue is calming, which makes it a great pick for bedrooms.

If you want to be bold, try pairing two colors across from one another on the color wheel, like green and red, or orange and blue.

Texture can also add a lot to a room. If you’re going for a warm, inviting vibe, pick soft fabrics like velvet or suede for your decorations. If you want something more glamorous try upholstery with a metallic sheen.

Even if you go for the minimalist design, don’t shy away from colors just yet. As long as you pick one theme color, adding a splash of color to your place might just be the thing that you were missing.

4. Try out different shapes and designs for frames

Sometimes a frame can make a painting look even better. Start by setting the overall mood in your room and then pick various frames that would go with it. For example, a golden highly decorated frame would look fabulous and will give a true glam feel to a large room with a generous lightning source. Instead, the same would make the room look clustered if you place it on a small already crowded wall.

Experiment with different sizes of frames and even different colors as well. Who says you can only put one painting on the same wall. use your imagination or a decor app to create room mockups and chose what inspires you the most.

5. On a budget? Go for high quality art prints

In today’s world art is truly an investment. It pays off to own an original piece of artwork, today or later on. However, technology also made it possible that we own high quality original artworks at very affordable prices. This is where art prints come into picture.
